A fun and light hearted conversation with Josh, Rutger and Jenny about one of the great winemaking regions of the world. Join us to see what makes this area so special and the wines so valuable.
Oh Burgundy. The wines of Kings. So much that the physician who oversaw the health of the longest reigning monarch of Europe, Louis XIV, prescribed aged Burgundy wines for the health stating they were superior to Champagne
We had the honor of welcoming two of America's most lauded producers, Colgin Cellars and Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery, for a weekend of events with our Ambassador Corps benefitting Third Option, an organization so dear to us. We raised more than $80,000 for Third Option and are so happy to be a small part in the work that they do healing, helping, and honoring members of the CIA’s Special Operations community and their families.
The perfect wines for a spring weekend! Join our winemaker Joshua, Rutger and Jenny for a discussion of this incredibly diverse region.
In preparation for our sold-out Journey to the Loire Valley on Thursday, June 26, we asked one of our favorite chefs, Saskia Poulos of Oak Spring Garden Foundation, for a few great food pairings for the lovely Loire wines that we will be tasting. In what can only be described as a love letter to the Loire wines, Saskia created such a fantastic primer that we had to share it with all of you. We will also post the Journey video at the end of the month so keep an eye out.
We caught up with Josh for the Vineyard report, and while we thought we were going to chat about Bud Break and the inclement spring weather we've been having, it instead turned into a wonderful reveal that we're excited to share with you. RdV has put in baby vines for an experimental white wine project, and Josh explains the project to us.
The Spring Journey Series has returned! We loved looking at the wine world of wine with you last year. This year we decided to focus on winemaking in France, the country that created and still defines the concept of terroir.
We started this cycle in our beloved Bordeaux. Spring is a thrilling time there. Join us for a dive into three gorgeous examples.
Josh, Rutger and Jenny got together to present a deep dive into the 2021 harvest, tasting through the individual varietal components, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, as well as the first barrel samples of the finished blend of both Rendezvous and Lost Mountain.
I often compare the winemaking process to cooking. First, you choose the best ingredients possible for your dish (pick the grapes), and then you cook according to a precisely chosen technique (extraction). Then you do a final plating where all the elements come together to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts (blending.)
Blending is the final of the three major arts in winemaking. We've picked grapes for the perfect ability to create structure from the flavor compounds, the sugars, tannins, and acids that make up the backbone of the win. After picking, we move through the extraction phase.
Temperatures in the single digits, snow on the ground and winemaker Josh Grainer couldn’t be happier. For wintertime in the vineyard is pruning time—a quiet time of meditation, contemplation and without question, very hard and crucial work. From mid-December through March, Josh and the team go through the 35,000 plants, individually, by hand, to each plant’s unique sap flux and growth plan.
